DURING THE COURSE OF OUR LIVES, ANYONE CAN EXPERIENCE THE FEELING OF NOT HAVING THE RESOURCES OR THE RIGHT TOOLS TO DEAL WITH A CERTAIN SITUATION, OR REALIZE THAT WE HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME IN A WAY THAT SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTS OUR ABILITY TO LIVE A FULFILLING LIFE.  ALTHOUGH WE WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT TO IMPROVE OUR GENERAL WELLBEING AND QUALITY OF LIFE, WE MIGHT FEEL THAT LANGUAGE REPRESENTS A BARRIER.

PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELLING PROVIDES CONSULTATIONS REGARDING A SPECIFIC SITUATION OR DIFFICULTY. THE INTERVENTION CONSISTS IN HELPING INDIVIDUALS DEFINE THE PROBLEM OR OBSTACLE THEY ARE FACING, STRENGTHEN THEIR RESOURCES AND SELF-AWARENESS.

PSYCHOTHERAPY IS SUGGESTED WHEN INDIVIDUALS FACE MORE COMPLEX STRUGGLES, WHICH MAY REFLECT ON DIFFERENT CONTEXTS AND BE EXPRESSED THROUGH SPECIFIC “SYMPTOMS”. THE INTERVENTION CONSISTS IN DEFINING MORE EXTENSIVELY THE ISSUE OR THE WORRIES OF THE INDIVIDUAL, PROMOTING MINDFULNESS ABOUT ONE’S FUNCTIONING, STRENGTHENING THEIR ABILITY TO REGULATE EMOTIONS AND TO RELATE WITH ONE’S OWN INTERNAL STATES (THOUGHTS, EMOTIONS, BEHAVIORS, BODILY SENSATIONS). THESE APPROACHES INCREASE THE DEGREES OF FREEDOM OF THE INDIVIDUAL, ALLOWING HIM/HER TO LIVE BETTER ORIENTED TOWARDS ONE’S LIFE VALUES.

DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY  AND LEARNING ASSESSMENTS

DOES YOUR CHILD NOT WANT TO GO TO PRESCHOOL? DOES HE HAVE LITTLE INTEREST IN PLAYING WITH OTHER CHILDREN OR DOES S/HE PLAY IN AN AGGRESSIVE MANNER? DOES S/HE HAVE OUTBURSTS OF ANGER AND IS EASILY FRUSTRATED? DOES S/HE STRUGGLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH OTHERS?

HAS YOUR CHILD STARTED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND IS ANXIOUS, ALWAYS MOVING, OR SHOWS PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS THAT HAVE NO MEDICAL EXPLANATION? DOES S/HE STRUGGLE TO MAKE FRIENDS OR TO RESPECT THE RULES IN THE CLASSROOM, WHEN PLAYING WITH HIS/HER CLASSMATES OR AT HOME (FOR EXAMPLE WHEN IT COMES TO DOING HOMEWORK OR WHEN LIMITING THE USE OF TECHNOLOGIES)?

THESE ARE SOME OF THE DIFFICULTIES CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES CAN ENCOUNTER OVER THE YEARS. THESE DIFFICULTIES CAN CAUSE DISTRESS AND CAN IMPACT ON THE CHILD, A PARENT OR ON THE PARENTAL COUPLE.

THIS SERVICE PROVIDES SUPPORT TO CHILDREN WHO HAVE PSYCHOLOGICAL, EMOTIONAL OR SOCIAL DIFFICULTIES AS WELL AS TO CHILDREN WITH A DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDER (LEARNING DISORDERS, ADHD, AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS, INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY). IT IS ALSO FOR PARENTS WHO MAY NEED SUPPORT IN THEIR DAILY MANAGEMENT AND TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF THEIR CHILD'S SPECIFIC EMOTIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL NEEDS. DEPENDING ON THE FAMILY’S NEED, THE PSYCHOLOGIST SUGGESTS WHETHER THE CHILD OR THE PARENTS OR BOTH SHOULD START THERAPY. MEETINGS WITH THE TEACHERS ARE OFTEN RECOMMENDED TO SHARE EDUCATIONAL AND TEACHING STRATEGIES.
